Avete mai provato ad immaginare com'erano, una volta, i viaggi? Cosa significasse viaggiare in treno e/o in battello nell'Ottocento? Ecco, questo libro di Dickens è la risposta. Si tratta del diario di viaggio scritto da Dickens durante il suo viaggio in America.Parla del suo viaggio in America, degli spostamenti tra le varie città con treni e i battelli, racconta le città che visita, racconta degli alberghi in cui alloggia e dei panorami che vede. Racconta le sue opinioni e idee su ciò che vede e lo circonda.
Racconta nel dettaglio i suoi spostamenti in battello, treno, calesse e carri postali, descrivendo per filo e per segno le condizioni delle strade e delle ferrovie e come il mare era agitato e muoveva i battelli fino a far venire il mal di mare ai passeggeri.
L'ho trovato un libro veramente molto bello. Non solo perchè è di Dickens, ma anche perché mi ha fatto ragionare e pensare a come erano le città americane all'epoca, come erano differenti dalle grandi megalopoli che oggi immaginiamo e sogniamo come mete ideali per i nostri viaggi. Mi ha anche fatto riflettere su come, oggi, i mezzi di trasporto molto più evoluti e migliorati, ci rendano il viaggiare molto più semplice. Un libro che consiglio assolutamente di leggere, soprattutto a chi piace viaggiare!

In this moment, in the meantime you are reading this post, I'm on the plane flying to Berlin. With this post I wanted to talk about my opinion on the book by Dickens "American Notes".
Have you ever tried to imagine how it must have been traveling in the past? What it meant to travel by train and/or boat in the nineteenth century? This book written by Dickens may be the answer. This is the travel diary written by Dickens during his trip to America. He tells us about his journeys between cities with trains and boats, he speaks about the cities he visited, tells us of the hotels and of the views he sees. He tells his opinions and ideas on what he sees and his surroundings. And he does it as if he were still on the road.
He tells and describes in detail his travels, describing the condition of the roads and railways and moved like the troubled sea vessels to bring the passengers seasick.
I found this a very nice book. Not only because it was written by Dickens, but also because it made me think about how American cities were at the time, as they were different from the big megalopolis that today we imagine and dream as ideal destinations for our trips. He has also made me reflect on how, transportation are much more evolved and improved, which make traveling much easier. A book that I would absolutely recommend to read, especially for those who like to travel!
