LONDRA: Imperial War Museum

Quando venne fondato, durante la prima guerra mondiale, l'idea era quella di "tramandare lo sforzo bellico e i sacrifici compiuti dal Regno Unito e dal suo Impero". Oggi, invece, viene visto come un mezzo per "permettere alle persone di avere una informata comprensione della guerra contemporanea e del suo impatto sugli individui e sulla società".

Il museo si trova a Southwark, nell'edificio di quello che una volta era il Bethlem Royal Hospital. L'ingresso è gratuito, ovviamente. Ha diverse sedi distaccate nel territorio inglese e fanno parte del museo anche la dragamine HMS Belfast e le Cabinet War Rooms. Nelle collezioni del museo si trovano anche archivi di documenti ufficiali e privati, fotografie, filmati e registrazioni audio di interviste a testimoni di fatti storici significativi. Vi è presente un'importante biblioteca, una collezione d'arte oltre a vari mezzi militari, aerei, equipaggiamento e armi di ogni genere. Un riassunto visivo di quello che sono state le guerre.

Quando andai a visitarlo pensavo che ne sarei scappata dopo due secondi (netti), invece mi dovetti ricredere: rimasi affascinata da diversi mezzi e anche dalle due mostre, una sull'olocausto e l'altra sui crimini contro l'umanità: vietate ai minori di 14 anni, erano molto crude, ma avendo una comprensione buona della lingua inglese si imparavano cose che sui libri non si trovano.

When the Imperial War Museum was founded during the First World War, the idea was to "pass on the war effort and sacrifices made ​​by the United Kingdom and its Empire." The museum is located in Southwark, the building of the old Bethlem Royal Hospital. Admission is free, of course. It has several branches in the British territory and are part of the museum the minesweeper HMS Belfast and the Cabinet War Rooms. In the collections of the museum there are also official and private archives of documents, photographs, films and audio recordings of interviews with witnesses of significant historical events. When I visited I thought that I would have run after two seconds (net), however I had to change my mind: I was fascinated by different things and also by two exhibitions: one was on the Holocaust and the other  about crimes against humanity. Both were prohibited for children under 14 years because these were very crude.
